Japanese Soaking Bathtub

Japanese soaking bathtubs are gaining popularity in the United States.  People are becoming more aware of these styles of tubs and their advantages in style and functionality.

What is a Japanese soaking bathtub?
A Japanese soaking tub is a deep tub that usually has a seat in it.  Unlike normal tubs, you sit in the tub with the water up to your neck instead of lying down.  As you have probably already concluded, this type of tub offers more coverage on your body. Think hot tub.

What are the advantages?
In a normal 5 foot tub, you can barely soak in it without having the water go into the overflow drain and good luck if you are a large person.  Soaking in a sitting position is more comfortable and relaxing for watching TV or reading a book while in the bathtub.  With the water at your shoulders, your whole body is enveloped in warm water for a full relaxing bath.

If your bathroom space is limited and don't have room for a large jacuzzi tub, then a Japanese soaking tub may be your solution.  Since you are sitting in it, it requires less width and floor space.  These bathtubs also come with air jets if you want the jacuzzi option.

There are some things to consider when shopping for a Japanese soaking tub. These tubs are shaped differently.  They come in circular, square, rectangle and other shapes so be sure to take measurements of how it will fit through the door and into your bathroom.  Also, soaking tubs use more water.  Make sure your water heater has enough capacity to fill the tub and keep it hot.  If you are a tall person, consider a flat bottom tub.  Having the seat can sometimes make the tub feel not deep enough.
